Deep Tissue Massage

Relieves Muscle Tension and Chronic Pain, Brings Balance to the Body

Day to day activities like employment and recreational pursuits can lead to muscle tension, muscle imbalances, and postural dysfunctions. These can result in issues such as frequent headaches and daily discomfort. Neck, shoulder and/or low back pain can become common complaints. Conditions such as Fibromyalgia and Insomnia can cause or add to chronic pain. Often the deeper muscles in the body are affected. Deep tissue massage gets to the source of the problem and helps to bring a reduction or resolution to pain and stiffness and bring balance back to the body.

A common misconception is that deep tissue massage involves heavy pressure and has to be painful in order to achieve results. Not true! A skilled therapist layers their techniques in order to soften the overlying tissues, decreasing discomfort, and always works within the pressure tolerances of the client.

Massage

Relaxation Massage

Reduces Stress, Improves Mental Health Conditions, Increases Circulation and Lymphatic Flow, Brings Healing Oxygen and Nutrients to the Tissues.

Relaxation massage uses long, flowing techniques and light to moderate pressure in order to soothe the sympathetic nervous system, decreasing the production of stress inducing hormones like cortisol and increasing the release of feel good hormones like dopamine and serotonin. It increases circulation and lymphatic flow, bringing healing oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and decreasing the stagnant buildup of metabolites in the body.

Relaxation massage can also help reduce the symptoms of mental health conditions like depression and anxiety.

Cupping

Myofascial Cupping

Treats Pain, Movement Restrictions and Scar Tissue, Stimulates Collagen Production, Aids in the Healing of Inflammatory Conditions

Cupping is a therapeutic treatment that originated in China 2000 years ago. It was originally done with glass or bamboo cups. An accelerant such as alcohol was placed in the cups and then lit on fire. The cups were then placed on the body, extinguishing the flame and creating a suction effect. The Chinese used this therapy to stimulate Chi (lifeforce) and clear blocked meridians (energy channels in the body). Nowadays fire cupping is rarely used due to its obvious potential risks. In the western world and in modern times, the intent of the treatment is geared more toward physical healing, although the fascial or sinew lines tend to follow similar paths as the meridians and can be positively influenced as well. Silicone and/or plastic cups are applied to the body using various techniques such as gliding, popping and parking (cups are applied to specific areas and left for a time). Cupping may be incorporated into a therapeutic massage or used as a stand alone treatment depending on the goals of therapy and the needs or wishes of the client.

Hot stone back massage

Hot Stone Massage

Calms the Nervous System, Alleviates Muscle Tension and Pain, Increases Circulation and Lymphatic Flow, Treats Inflammation

Porous stones made of volcanic rock called basalt are placed in hot water and brought to a high temperature. Stones are placed in stationary positions to draw circulation and prewarm the tissues in order to prepare them for further treatment while the therapist works on other areas of the body. Stones of different sizes and shapes are held in the therapist's hands and long flowing techniques are used to soften the superficial muscles and fascia (connective tissue). These techniques can be the entirety of the massage for those seeking more of a relaxation treatment, or they can be followed by more targeted, specific work with a therapeutic intent. The heat from the stones causes the blood vessels to expand (vasodilation) and the movement of the stones "pushes" blood and lymph. This is why hot stones (moving techniques) can be used in areas of inflammation without causing further swelling. The heat opens the blood vessels and the techniques used encourage the blood and lymph to flow away from the site of inflammation, unlike a heat pack which draws fluids to the area, compounding the problem.

CranioSacral Therapy

A gentle, deeply relaxing hands on therapy that supports the body's efforts to balance and heal dysfunctions in the Central Nervous System, thereby benefitting the body as a whole.

The central nervous system (CNS) is the motherboard of the body. It controls everything from primary life functions like breathing and heart rate to muscle movements and hormone levels.  The structures of the CNS are encased and separated into sections by three membranes. Within these membranes flows the cerebral spinal fluid, which nourishes the brain, spinal cord and all of the nerves which emerge from the spinal cord. CranioSacral techniques use the bones of the cranium and sacrum, essentially as levers, in order to manipulate these membranes. This in turn positively influences the flow of the cerebral spinal fluid, thereby encouraging and supporting the body in it's efforts to reach homeostasis and heal.

The CNS affects every system and structure in the body, so by supporting it's health and function CranioSacral therapy can have a beneficial effect on everything from musculoskeletal pain due to postural imbalances, to disc and nerve root issues in the spine (herniations), to mental health concerns like depression and anxiety.

It can help with headaches and migraines, hearing problems, tinnitus, dizziness, vertigo, dyslexia, seizure disorders, TMJ, and conditions that stem from nervous system dysfunctions like MS and Parkinsons, as well as assisting to balance hormone levels.

Client Feedback

Brandy is very knowledgeable and describes to you exactly what she is doing and why and how it affects each muscle etc. Most other massages I've been to in the past have a routine and they stick to it regardless of my pain issues. With  Brandy she works on the targeted areas of concern feeling each area that is tight or needs attention using just the appropriate amount of pressure or time for overall benefit. I would highly recommend Brandy to anyone looking for an effective massage.

About Me

My Story

In 2018 I decided to return to school in order to pursue a career that was more in line with my personal philosophies and beliefs. I wanted to help people improve their health in a holistic way, and so I became a Massage Therapist. I am so grateful to be part of Lethbridge's complimentary medicine community. Every day I have the opportunity to provide treatments that positively impact my clients health and wellbeing, and I find that incredibly rewarding.

My approach is simple: I communicate with my clients to develop a treatment plan that meets their specific needs. Once we have established what your health goals are, we will decide together how best to meet those goals. That usually consists of a combination of techniques, and those will change as your condition or goals change. If you need a positive, energetic and caring Massage Therapist, please don’t hesitate to reach out to find out how I can help you restore and revitalize yourself.
